Merged realities – events and issues for virtual worlds

cube3-virtualedgesml 1. Anyone still not convinced about the growth of virtual meeting spaces within business might like to check out the one created for the Virtual Edge Summit by Officepodz. More on this later in the week.

2. Twinity have expanded their virtual Berlin area. As of now, there’s a ‘be Berlin citystore’, which is part of the ‘be Berlin’ tourism marketing campaign. The citystore will play host to some further events and some round-table discussions to promote Berlin as an attractive tourist destination. The citystore can be found in the real world and in Twinity at Rochstra├če 15, 10178 Berlin-Mitte.

3. The Alter Ego documentary on Second Life is now scheduled for screening this month: Friday 26th June at 10pm AEST. A review of the documentary is coming soon.

4. Gary Hayes has an interesting post to coincide with the widely misinterpreted “bombing” of ABC Island in Second Life. Those were the days.

5. Apparently it’s barbed wire and a concentration camp feel on the boundaries of the new adults-only test areas in Second Life.

Merged realities: events and issues for virtual worlds

1. The upcoming SBS documentary, Alter Ego, now has a (superb) theme song available for free download here.

2. An interesting Second Life event:

The annual DREAMS Community Health, Education and Art Fair will be held from February the 15th through the 28th. This will be the 5th year for the fair at Dreams.

Each year the Dreams Community Fair is provided as an outreach program to connect & educate SL residents about support groups and their services with an emphasis on health related groups.

The fair is filled with group presentations; booths of information, SL related classes, live performances, talks and more!

The ever popular “Linden Dunk Tank Day” will return and is tentatively scheduled for Friday the 20th from 2pm to 6pm SLT

3. A useful article on health education and virtual worlds was featured in a 2008 issue of Telehealth World ezine (page 8). Better late than never mentioning this.

Alter Ego – SBS covers Second Life (again)

Over the past nine months or so, writer / director Shelley Matulick has been making a documentary about Second Life. Its working title was CyberStars but the final product has a much improved title of Alter Ego. SBS and Matulick have previously released Our Brilliant Second Life, but the latest production is a significant step up in scope.

The final promo poster for Alter Ego looks like this:

Stalwart ABC Island admin, Wolfie Rankin, is one of the subjects of Alter Ego and he gives his thoughts on the finished product on his blog. There’s no confirmed release date as yet. This is a documentary that should garner quite a bit of interest, particularly if its portrayals have depth, which seems to be the case on initial impressions.
